200 years of hospitality with heart
in the tradition of Captain Böse
Born in Bremen and rooted in northern German values, Captain Heinrich Böse found a place in Bad Bederkesa that deeply moved him. As an officer with vision and as a man with a sense for nature and restoration, he early on recognised the special power of this landscape.
In 1826, he acquired a property at the edge of the spa gardens with the wish to create a place of calm, encounter and renewal. What began as a personal retreat became the seed from which our house grew. His idea of offering people a place to feel at ease continues to shape the Bösehof to this day.
The name Böse has stood for genuine hospitality in Bad Bederkesa for almost 200 years — for a house that has grown with the region and is shaped by the people who give it life with heart, integrity and responsibility. A place that allows you to arrive, to connect, and to find space for what truly matters.
With gratitude for what has been — and with joy for all that is yet to come.
The Bösehof as the legacy of Heinrich Böse — and its significance for Bad Bederkesa and the region
Heinrich Böse was not only a formative figure for Bad Bederkesa, but for the entire region. Through his political and economic initiatives — including the promotion of trade and the development of important infrastructure — he made a lasting contribution to the region’s growth and stability.
One notable example is the construction of the Hadler Canal. This project was of great importance for agriculture and economic development, while at the same time helping to prevent flooding, protect the landscape and sustainably improve living conditions for many people.
The life’s work of Heinrich Böse can still be felt today — both in the location of the Bösehof and in the way our house is run. The values he stood for — reliability, responsibility and commitment — continue to form the foundation of our actions and are reflected in the care, design and spirit of our house.
Just as Heinrich Böse once acted for the well-being of others, we too see ourselves today as hosts with responsibility: for our guests, for our team, and for the region in which we are rooted.
The Bösehof family carries the legacy forward
In 1957, the 22-year-old Günter Manke acquired the Bösehof with the support of his family and reopened it on 1 March of the same year as the “Waldschlösschen Bösehof.” In the decades that followed, the house was carefully and continuously developed, always with respect for its character and history.
In 2018, Inge and Günter Manke retired and passed responsibility on to the next generation. Their son Klaus Manke continues to lead the Bösehof together with his partner Andrea Roming, in keeping with the family tradition.
Today, the Bösehof stands for hospitality, quality and attention to detail — a modern hotel with soul, shaped by its history and by the people who give it life.
With 47 rooms and suites, a spacious wellness area and the restaurant HEINRICHS, offering regional and seasonal cuisine, the Bösehof is a place for calm, enjoyment and mindful hospitality.
Around 70 dedicated team members ensure personal service and a warm welcome every day. Authenticity, regionality, sustainability and a respectful approach to people and nature form the foundation of our work.
Since 1 January 2024, the long-standing team member and authorised signatory Natascha Grotjohann has been leading the house as Managing Director. Klaus Manke continues to support the Bösehof in an advisory role, while Andrea Roming is responsible for the events department.
